LANSING — The Lansing Elementary School District 158 Board of Education has unanimously approved an estimated 2017 tax levy that represents a 2.1 percent increase over last year's levy.

D.158 Business Manager Mark Crotty said the additional 2.1 percent represents the increase in the Consumer Price Index and would generate about an additional $450,000 over last year's levy.

He said the total amount of the 2017 levy would be just over $20 million.

Board President Robert Bonifazi said a public hearing regarding the levy will be held prior to the Dec. 20 board meeting at which the final levy will be considered.

Crotty said he is recommending the increase in order to keep up with day to day operations in the district.

"Your utility costs usually increase at two to three percent per year," Crotty said.
