CROWN POINT | Two Lake Superior Court judges up for retention during the November election were given high marks in this year's Lake County Bar Association survey.

Of the 265 lawyers responding to the survey, 79.41 percent recommended the retention of Judge Salvador Vasquez and 74.60 percent did the same for Judge Jesse Villalpando.

The survey asks lawyers to rate judges on a scale of 1 to 10 in the areas of competence, temperament and character as well as an overall rating and a "yes" or "no" recommendation.

Rating levels are: Exceptionally Well Qualified (9-10), Well Qualified (7-8), Qualified (5-6); Less Than Qualified (3-4) and Not Qualified (1-2). Participants are asked to not comment on candidates about which they have insufficient knowledge.

Vasquez earned an overall rating of 7.17 and Villalpando, 6.81.

Surveys were open online to more than 979 lawyers living and practicing in Lake County, not just members of the Lake County Bar Association.
