Lowell school sets bake sale to benefit Haitian orphanage

February 05, 2010 12:00 am

LOWELL | St. Edward Catholic School will have a bake sale to benefit the Haitian orphanage founded by Hammond resident Michael Fedele.

The orphanage Fedele started eight years ago was hit hard by the earthquake that struck Port-au-Prince last month. Also severely damaged were two additional properties, one a goat farm created to help the orphanage become self-sufficient and the other a house accommodating volunteers.

Twenty volunteers cared for about 150 children about 30 miles from the epicenter of the quake.

The bake sale will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Edward Catholic School, 210 S. Nicholas St.
