LOWELL | The Military Family Research Institute at Purdue University is partnering with libraries around the globe, including the Lowell Public Library at 1505 E. Commercial Ave., Lowell, to present the Our Heroes' Tree initiative.
It honors the contributions of past and present service members while also creating an awareness of military families affected by current military deployments.
To participate, create a handmade ornament or add your hero's picture to a pre-made ornament to honor the service member in your family or community from past and present wars, conflicts or peacetime operations.
Bring the ornament to the library, where it will be placed on the tree with other ornaments. In October, a photo of each ornament will be uploaded to the searchable Virtual Heroes' Tree website at www.cfs.purdue.edu/mfri/public/oht/virtual-tree.aspx.
