LOWELL | Local government leaders who have voiced opposition to the Illiana Expressway are hosting a public meeting on the topic Aug. 5.

State Sen. Rick Niemeyer, R-Lowell, Lake County Councilman Eldon Strong, Lake County Commissioner Gerry Scheub and West Creek Township Trustee Harold Mussman have set the 7 p.m. meeting at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6841, Lowell.

Mussman's wife, Pat Mussman, said the purpose of the gathering is to share information. No representatives for the Illiana project will be there, she said.
