Lake County Attorney John Dull is now recommending county officials withdraw flood-control contracts held by Kevin Madison, owner of Lowell-based V-Mad Construction.
Lake County government officials earlier awarded V-Mad contracts to clear sections of Kaiser Ditch, which runs through Merrillville, Gary and Hobart and Brown Ditch in rural south county. V-Mad was to provide proof that it owned sufficient assets to do the job.
Dull said he received new documents Friday from one of V-Mad's competitors indicating the assets Madison claimed V-Mad owned really belong to Madison's wife and son.
Dull said he doesn't know whether the county drainage board will invite new bidders to complete the drainage work.
