LOWELL | Lake County police were investigating an apparent double homicide Friday night at a rural homestead east of this town.
Patti Van Til, a spokeswoman for the Lake County Sheriff's Department, said detectives were dispatched to the Lowell area on the report of a double homicide, but said she had no information about victims or suspects.
Several county police cars were stationed Friday night outside a home near the intersection of 197th and Calumet Avenue, about 2.5 miles west of the Lake Prairie Elementary School.
One police car was parked in the westbound lane of 197th and officers were directing traffic away from the area where a handful of homes are surrounded by wide farm fields in West Creek Township.
Communications on police radio frequencies indicate the county police helicopter was dispatched to the scene shortly after 7 p.m. It returned to base about an hour later.
A woman living just east of the location said she was unaware of any problem at the home.
County government records indicate the house at that address was occupied recently and is assessed at $173,300.
