LOWELL | Trilogy Health Services has been granted a three-year tax abatement.
The Town Council could have approved either five or 10-year abatement, but opted for the shortest term for the developer of a long-term care and assisted living facility on the town's east end.
Trilogy will have its municipal taxes on the 53,000-square-foot facility and site improvements reduced on a graduated scale for those three years.
Peter Massey, of Trilogy, said Ramsey Development, of Tell City, Ind., will construct the facility on 6 acres south of the Walgreens store at East Commercial Avenue and Burr Street.
While it was originally thought the company might break ground this year, Massey said he now expects Ramsey will begin construction in the spring.
Trilogy has 43 facilities in Indiana, one in Illinois, 18 in Ohio, six in Michigan and six in Kentucky.
In other business, the council announced the Lowell Economic Development Commission will meet at 6 p.m. Monday on tax increment financing bonds for the planned medical office building near East Commercial Avenue and Holtz Road.
In June, engineering consultant Jeff Ban, of DVG Inc. in Merrillville, told the Lowell Plan Commission he was working with Franciscan Alliance and Chicago HSA, a developer of medical facilities.
The planned facility would be about 12,000 square feet. It would be in the first phase of development of a 20-acre parcel on the north side of Ind. 2, he said.
