LOWELL | Lowell police, paramedics and fire personnel worked feverishly performing CPR to revive an infant Monday, who died later at a Chicago area hospital.
Police, Tri-Creek paramedics and the Lowell Volunteer Police Department were called to a home in the 1600 block of Driftwood Drive at 6:11 a.m. Monday, Lowell Police Chief John Shelhart said.
A 7-week-old baby boy was not breathing.
Shelhart said emergency personnel performed CPR, reviving the infant. He was transported to a Chicago hospital, where he later died.
Charles Scott, Lowell Volunteer Fire Department assistant chief, said there was a "good concerted effort” to revive the child.
“I know those guys worked feverishly to revive the infant and were successful,” Scott said. “There are a lot of heavy hearts around here. We really work hard for children and infants. When we don’t get the outcome we want, the guys take it personally.”
The infant’s death is under investigation by the department pending the cause of death determination by the Cook County medical examiner, Shelhart said.
