LOWELL | A 61-year-old Lowell man was killed in a single-vehicle motorcycle accident there Sunday night.

Adam Szecpanck of the 6700 block of W. 157th Place was pronounced dead at 7:40 p.m., Lake County Coroner's office investigators said.

The cause of death was listed as blunt force trauma suffered in a motorcycle accident at 221 Wicker Ave. in Lowell.

Police said he was not wearing a helmet.

Patti Van Til, spokeswoman for the Lake County Sheriff's Department, said a sheriff's officer was involved in a separate crash at Ind. 2 and U.S. 41 while responding to the fatal accident. Property was damaged, but no one was injured in that crash, she said.

Van Til said police were called at 6:34 p.m. to the scene of the crash. Accident investigators reported seeing tire marks in the gravel shoulder leading up to where the motorcycle came to rest on the west side of southbound U.S. 41.

It was unclear why Szecpanck lost control of the motorcycle, police said.
