HAMMOND | A Lowell man is seeking a presidential pardon, according to a letter filed Tuesday in Hammond federal court.
It is not clear from Eric Phernetton's letter what he is seeking a presidential pardon from, but he referenced a conviction for criminal trespass in an earlier letter to the court.
In 2010, Phernetton filed a federal lawsuit against the Crown Point Police Department, attorney Mark Gruenhagen and Lake Superior Court Magistrate Michael Pagano, accusing them of a host of violations including harassment, property damage, illegal depositions, emotional stress and "unneutrality" of a judge.
He also sought $1,500 for a custom-made shirt that he claimed was vomited on by a police officer's friend, court records state.
U.S. District Judge Joseph Van Bokkelen dismissed the lawsuit in 2011 for lack of a legal or factual basis.
Since then, Phernetton has filed a host of appeals and requests for reconsideration, all of which have been denied.
His latest request for reconsideration, dated Feb. 20, seeks a presidential pardon and asks that Van Bokkelen's ruling be overturned and that the judge be warned to maintain evidence, court records show.
