LOWELL | John "Jack" Ammons, Lowell Police Commission president, died Monday at the age of 67.
Ammons died after battling cancer.
Visitation for Ammons, who is survived by his wife, Carol, four children, nine grandchildren and a great-granddaughter, will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Sheets Funeral Home, 604 E. Commercial Ave. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Lowell.
A Vietnam Army veteran, Ammons was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Lowell High School chain gang.
Lowell Police Chief John Shelhart said he is saddened by the loss of Ammons who “was a great asset and leader on the Police Commission, and we are going to miss him tremendously.”
