HAMMOND | A Mexican national was indicted Tuesday for allegedly selling counterfeit Illinois driver's licenses and green cards.
Omar Alvaro Breton-Carrera was charged with misuse of a Social Security number, fraud and misuse of visas and fraud with identification documents.
Breton-Carrera was working for a Lowell company and used a counterfeit Social Security card when he filled out his paperwork, the indictment states.
An investigation was launched after Breton-Carrera allegedly offered to sell a co-worker an Illinois license for $250. When agents pulled his file from the company, the Social Security number he used came back registered to somebody else, documents state.
He is scheduled for a detention hearing at 2 p.m. Thursday.
