LOWELL | A car found Sunday with an unidentified body inside was registered to a Lowell man who has been missing for two weeks, Lake County sheriff's police said.
Daniel Ross, 55, was last seen at a friend’s home in Calumet City at 6:30 a.m. June 25. Ross was reported missing by family members after he failed to contact them or show up for work.
Ross was driving a silver 2011 Ford Taurus. Lake County Sheriff’s Public Information Officer Patricia Van Til confirmed Monday that the car Ross was reported driving when he went missing matched the description and license plate number of a car that apparently crashed in a wooded area in unincorporated Lowell.
Ross’ car was found at 1:45 p.m. Sunday east of the 17100 block of Mount Street. A decomposed body was found inside in the driver’s seat, Van Til said.
The body had not been positively identified as of Monday evening, pending DNA tests, Van Til said. A Monday autopsy concluded the cause of death was blunt force trauma.
Van Til said tire tracks indicated the vehicle left Mount Street and drove northeast down a farm path. It then proceeded into a bean field and a wooded area where it struck a tree, she said.
