The Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission has announced the Transportation Policy Committee's Dec. 3 vote on the Illiana Expressway will take place at the Sycamore Room, Woodland Park, 2100 Willowcreek Road, Portage. The meeting starts at 9 a.m.
The committee will be voting on whether to include the Illiana Expressway in NIRPC's long- and short-term transportation plans. The Dec. 3 vote will then be passed on to the full NIRPC board as a recommendation. The full board is scheduled to vote Dec. 12.
The full NIRPC board must vote in favor of including the Illiana Expressway in its long- and short-term transportation plans for the expressway project to move forward.
Transportation Policy Committee Chairman Shawn Pettit at this week's meeting of the committee said public comment will be allowed before the vote on Dec. 3 upon a motion and second by any two members.
In addition, NIRPC's Pathway to 2040 Implementation Committee meeting has scheduled a special meeting for 9 a.m. Dec. 4 at the NIRPC/Forum building at 6100 Southport Road, Portage.
The committee will review and discuss information on the proposed Illiana Expressway and possibly take action on a recommendation to the full NIRPC board.
The Pathway to 2040 Implementation Committee is in charge of formulating policies and initiatives that will lead to achieving the goals contained in NIRPC's long-term plan, called the 2040 Comprehensive Regional Plan.
