LOWELL | A former Tri-Creek School Board member is hoping to regain a seat on the board in a race against an incumbent who says she has more to accomplish.

Incumbent Michelle Dumbsky is defending her West Creek Township seat against challenger Lon Childress.

"For the last four years, I've been working hard. I really want to make Tri-Creek the best educational system in the area," said Dumbsky, the board's vice president.

"The board we have now clicks so well," she said. "We all listen to each other, and we each bring our own strengths to the board."

The board has embarked on ambitious technology initiatives that are transforming how education is delivered in Tri-Creek.

"We all know you can't just put a computer in front of a kid. We're trying to change the culture," Dumbsky said. "I would like to see this out."

Dumbsky has two children at Lowell High School.

Childress' children have graduated from Lowell.

Childress, who served three years as board president during his two terms, said, like his opponent, he hasn't finished what he had hoped to accomplish.

"We were implementing all the technology after running so lean for so many years," he said. "I want to help. I miss it. I wasn't ready to quit."

Childress was unseated from his at-large position by board member Robert Martinez. He and Dumbsky served two years together.

One representative from each of the three townships — West Creek, Cedar Creek and Eagle Creek — and two at-large representatives sit on the board. There may be no more than two representatives from each of the three townships on the board.
