LOWELL | A traffic stop Thursday afternoon on Interstate 65 near Lowell resulted in the discovery of 3.5 pounds of crystal meth and the arrest of two Illinois men.
Officer Mike Stewart of the Lake County Sheriff's Department's interdiction unit and his partner, Officer John Artiby of the Gary Police Department, were patrolling southbound Interstate 65 with their K-9 partner Loki.
Around 4 p.m., the officers spotted a 2002 BMW speeding and making unsafe lane movements. The officers stopped the car and Loki, a trained drug detection dog, alerted to the engine of the vehicle. The officers found 3.5 pounds of crystal meth in the engine compartment.
Alexander Molina, 18, and Alejandro Murilla, 26, both of North Chicago, Ill., were arrested and charged with dealing in a controlled substance. The men were transported to Lake County Jail.
