LOWELL | The Red Devils' Friday night lights will be shining brightly next football season.
The Tri-Creek School Board agreed to award the contract for Lowell High School's football field lighting upgrade to Midwestern Electric Inc. of East Chicago.
The firm's bid was the lowest of three at $369,900. Bids had been sought from Hire Electric, Austgen Electric and Sweeney Electric.
The long-awaited project will replace all the original fixtures and poles from 1972, Assistant Superintendent Nathan Kleefisch said. A natural gas line will be extended as part of the project.
Board Vice President Michelle Dumbsky said the upgrade will bring the football fields into compliance with athletic conference guidelines.
In other business, the board approved a new logo for the Tri-Creek School Corp.
Superintendent Debra Howe presented the logo, which features three waves of blue with three trident-like arrows jutting upward. The design pays tribute to Red Devil pride in the school corporation and the three townships — West Creek, Cedar Creek and Eagle Creek — that make up the district.
Howe said the new logo is intended to easily identify the school system. It replaces the corporation name in blue lettering.
