LOWELL | With the new school year looming, the Tri-Creek School Board met in special session Tuesday to hire new teachers and staff.
The first day of school for students will be Aug. 16.
The board accepted the resignation of Three Creeks Elementary School teacher Kelly Smith and hired Michelle Hubbard for the position.
Kelly Korth, who most recently filled in during another teacher's maternity leave at Lake Prairie Elementary School, also was hired for a teaching position.
The resignation of Lowell High School math teacher Donna Martin was accepted.
Stephanie Olson resigned as Three Creeks Spell Bowl coach, and Linsey Waterstraat was appointed to that position.
Samantha Semrau was hired as a school bus driver, replacing Kelly Faverty.
Kim Gavelek was appointed high school girls varsity soccer coach, and her daughter Erin Gavelek was appointed junior varsity coach.
Deanna Munjas will serve as the Oak Hill Elementary School library aide. Munjas replaces Kathy Chopp, who retired.
Quincey Corning, Tyler Damm and Francesca Rebesco, all Lowell High students, were appointed technology interns effective Aug. 16.
Tri-Creek School Corp. Superintendent Debra Howe said a couple of teaching vacancies remain. Howe hopes to have recommendations for those positions at the board's next meeting, which is set for 7 p.m. Thursday.
