LOWELL | The Tri-Creek School Board has named Dana Bogathy the new director of business and human services for the school corporation.
Currently the director of business services for the Hanover Community School Corp. in Cedar Lake, Bogathy will join Tri-Creek in November.
"I'm very excited about the opportunity," Bogathy told the board.
Superintendent Debra Howe said Bogathy was one of 10 applicants interviewed for the vacancy left by the July departure of Lynn Kwilasz, who is now the chief financial officer for the Duneland School Corp.
"She'll be a very good fit," Howe said in recommending Bogathy.
In other business, the board authorized the sale of $750,000 in general obligation bonds to fund the purchase of an HVAC system at Three Creeks Elementary School.
Financial consultant Rod Wilson of City Securities Inc. of Fort Wayne said it is essentially a one-year loan.
Board member Tim Cottingham asked if the school's HVAC system had reached its normal lifespan.
Assistant Superintendent Nathan Kleefisch said, "It's coming to the end of its life. This is a pro-active approach."
The school was built in 1990.
In a related matter, the board agreed to retain H. J. Umbaugh & Associates of Indianapolis as financial adviser to the school corporation.
New state law prohibits Wilson and his firm from continuing in that capacity as they also serve as underwriter. A new agreement with City Securities Inc. was also approved.
