LOWELL | Tri-Creek School Corporation invites parents and community members to attend one of several Listening Posts and provide input regarding plans for the new Learning Center to be built on the site of the former Lowell Middle School.
Sessions are set for 6:30 p.m. today in the Lowell High School Auditorium), 2051 E. Commercial Ave., and twice Monday, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Cedar Creek Community Center, 151 N. Fremont St., and from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Lowell Town Hall, 501 E. Main St.
Tri-Creek is partnering with Ivy Tech Community College, which will lease space in the new building as a regional campus site. Day and evening general education courses will be offered for Lowell High School students and community members. Career and technical (vocational) courses, including Steelworker of the Future, will also be offered.
Plans for the Learning Center include space for the Opportunity Center, Tri-Creek’s alternative to suspension/expulsion program, a preschool/daycare center, an employee health clinic, a community center, and a multipurpose gym, which will also serve as a large group instruction space.
Tri-Creek administrative offices will also be housed on site to oversee the operations of the building.
Ivy Tech will allow Lowell High School students who pass Ivy Tech’s admissions test to take courses at the Learning Center tuition-free.
According to school officials, the Tri-Creek community will see no increase in taxes to support this new facility.
Representatives from Ivy Tech Community College, CSO Architects, The Skillman Corporation, and a financial advisor will be in attendance to answer questions.
