MERRILLVILLE | The American Police Canine Association will be hosting their yearly conference at Radisson Hotel in Merrillville through Sept. 27.

According to Bring it Home Hero, Officer William Granzow, the convention is expected to bring around 50 canines from across the United States and Canada to participate in the workshop.

On Sept. 25, canines were scheduled to participate in a scenario based training session at the Port of Indiana. The session will include vehicle extractions, narcotics, S.W.A.T., mass transportation, building searches, control and water deployments. The five-day convention will also include classroom presentations, hands-on learning opportunities, problem solving as well as new training methods and techniques from master trainers and trainers from across the United States.

The APCA is a nationally accredited organization comprised of police, military and correctional officers who are either active or retired in their respected fields. APCA provides knowledge and training related to the canine field involving police, military and corrections.
