CALUMET TOWNSHIP | Lake County police are investigating a shooting that wounded a Merrillville man Tuesday night.

The 21-year-old man was with a companion when a verbal altercation started about 8 p.m. with two other people at the Tiberon Trails apartment complex, 1020 W. 52nd Drive, according to a Lake County police news release.

Those two people reportedly shot the man in the leg, struck him and fled the area, police said.

Officers found the victim on the floor of a common area inside an apartment building. After receiving treatment from emergency medical services, the man was taken to the Methodist Hospitals Southlake Campus in Merrillville, police said.
