MERILLVILLE | Twenty-seven organization and association representatives learned what it meant to be a hero on March 21 during the South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority and Radisson Hotel at Star Plaza’s Bring it Home Ambassador Reception.
Of the 27 attendees, Karen Lauerman, marketing and communications director of the Northwest Indiana Forum, Peggy Holinga Katona, Lake County Auditor and Leon Wolek, founder of Leon’s Triathlon were in attendance.
“It’s important to get people involved with the campaign to spread awareness of their ability to create economic impact,” Megan Langel, sales manager for the South Shore CVA, said.
According to Langel, events like the Bring It Home Ambassador Reception help nurture relationships, as well as create new ones, with representatives from local organizations.
Holinga Katona believes the annual event is very informative because representatives from both South Shore CVA and Radisson Hotel meet with the attendees to discuss the different amenities and benefits of working with them on bringing home an event.
“Meetings and conventions bring business to our area, they show what Northwest Indiana has to offer and they help with our growth,” Katona said.
In addition to networking and learning about the potential to create economic impact, attendees were able to dine on foods containing ingredients from local businesses. Included in the salad was Fair Oaks Farms cheese, while a Shady Creek Winery wine was used in the pasta sauce and Albanese Confectionery chocolate covered stirring spoons where available at a hot chocolate and coffee station.
