MERRILLVILLE | All second-grade Merrillville students will receive instruction at the Tri-Town Safety Village during the 2013-14 school year following a donation from Mike Anderson Chevrolet, school officials said.

The Merrillville auto dealership presented a $3,465 check Friday to officials from the safety village and Merrillville School Corp.

This is the second year Mike Anderson Chevrolet has funded the project to send Merrillville students to the safety village, which teaches children about fire, railroad and traffic safety.

The safety village developed partnerships with NIPSCO and Enbridge this year to create new facilities on its property, providing instruction about electric safety, gas safety and safe digging practices.
