Bernice King, daughter of the late Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King, will be in the region this weekend to help host a special program, Keeping the Dream Alive Youth Rally 2013 and Beyond — Moving from Rhetoric to Action.
King will be honored at a reception sponsored by NIPSCO on Friday night at the Radisson Hotel at Star Plaza in Merrillville.
King is the keynote speaker at a 9 a.m. youth rally Saturday at Van Buren Baptist Church, 2585 Van Buren St. in Gary, the only session of her visit which is open to the public.
She will then present "Making Professions in the Sciences Available to All" at a reserved seating brunch beginning at 11 a.m. at Calumet College of St. Joseph in Hammond.
The Dream Symposium 2013 opening session begins at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bergland Auditorium in the Savannah Center at Indiana University Northwest, 3400 Broadway, Gary.
The 1 p.m. session at IUN on Saturday is for 250 students who have registered for the symposium.
