MERRILLVILLE | A 28-year-old Hebron man allegedly was involved in a recent residential burglary in Merrillville.
Christopher D. Delgado was charged in Lake Criminal Court with felony burglary and misdemeanor resisting law enforcement.
On Jan. 28, Merrillville Police Chief Joseph Petruch saw a Ford Mustang parked in the grass in front of a home in the 7200 block of East 93rd Avenue, according to court documents.
The vehicle's engine was running and its doors were open. The documents state Petruch saw a man leave the home with a television under his arm.
Petruch instructed the person to stop, but the man returned to the home and shut a door, the documents state. Additional police officers were sent to the location. Officers searched the home and the surrounding area, but the person wasn't found.
While investigating the situation, police determined two televisions from the home were inside of the Mustang. Another television was just inside of the front entrance to the home.
The homeowner told police she locked and secured the home before leaving, and she didn't give anyone permission to enter it.
According to court documents, Petruch viewed a picture of Delgado and identified him as the person he saw at the home.
