MERRILLVILLE | Goodfellow Coin Club, which meets the fourth Tuesday of the month at the Sportsmen Club in Crown Point, recently donated 31 coin reference books with a purchase price of $600 to the Lake County Public Library.
A subsidy program sponsored by the Central States Numismatic Society, to which the Goodfellow Coin Club belongs, assisted with the purchase and donation.
CSNS is comprised of coin clubs, individuals and institutions in the Midwestern states, including Indiana and Illinois.
A committee chaired by Dan McDowell, secretary/treasurer of the Goodfellows, developed a preliminary wish list of books that were purchased from Northern Illinois Coin & Stamp at the Illinois Numismatic Association’s 53rd Coin and Currency show in Tinley Park, Ill.
Book topics include U.S. coins and currency, Canadian coins, coin grading, and reference books on specific coin types and varieties.
The Goodfellow Club appreciated CSNS’s subsidy and the club is pleased to assist the community in increasing the knowledge of coin collecting, McDowell said. The Goodfellow Club is investigating other possibilities for donations in coming years.
