MERRILLVILLE | A region child care center on Friday honored two little girls who once attended the facility and died in an Interstate 65 crash last week along with five family members.

The children attending Happy Days Child Care Center released yellow balloons in remembrance of Yazmin Goldman, 5, her sister, Arielle Goldman, 3, their mother, Lindsey Williams, 27, and the other family members killed Aug. 15 when their vehicle was rear-ended by a semitrailer and forced into the back of another semi.

Dozens of children, all dressed in yellow shirts, released their balloons in the school parking lot, 6111 Harrison St., after Director Andrea Kelly read a poem about friends. Kelly read the names of the little girls and their mother and had a moment of silence in honor of the girls' and their family.

The children at the facility were not told anything about the accident, Kelly said, but many of them knew the little girls.

Kelly said the Goldman girls attended the day care center for a couple of years but withdrew in March. Teacher Janine Buchanan said the two Goldman girls were precious.

"They loved each other so much. They were full of the love of God," Buchanan said. "They had been raised up the right way. Arielle always called herself a princess. Both of those girls were very special."

Also killed in the crash were Williams' sister, Yvette Williams, 35, her two children, Jazmin Osborne, 7, Jamin Osborne Jr., 5, and the uncle of the Williams' sisters Amado Mangual Jr., 49.
