MERRILLVILLE | Excel Dental Studio recently awarded a $1000 scholarship to Chris Sobczak, a Hebron High School graduate in his second year at Purdue University.
Sobczak, an Excel Dental Studio patient, was chosen from among several applicants for the first annual scholarship. “I chose Chris for our scholarship because he had a dream as a child to become involved with aviation,” said Manoj Bahl, DDS and owner of Excel Dental. “Now he is making it happen Very few of us actually pursue our dreams.”
He is studying Aeronautical Engineering Technology and is a member of the Air Force ROTC. Sobczak’s plans include earning a commission as a second lieutenant in the Air Force. After his military comment ends, he wants to pursue a career at Boeing or Lockheed Martin.
Bahl notes that Sobczak had a stellar high school career. At Hebron High, he was part of the National Honor Society, helped distribute Thanksgiving turkeys as part of the Civil Air Patrol and served as a Senate Page.
“Even in high school, Chris realized that when individuals are faced with tough times, they should know their community stands by them. Chris embodies all the characteristics I was looking for when I created this scholarship,” he said.
