The final 60 patients who have pending medical malpractice claims against former Merrillville sinus doctor Mark Weinberger will receive compensation through a settlement, according to a news release from the Indiana Department of Insurance and attorney Kenneth J. Allen.
The amount of the settlement wasn't released.
The civil lawsuits claimed Weinberger performed unnecessary or negligent surgeries leading to pain and suffering.
"Our clients are extremely gratified by the extraordinary efforts and professionalism of (Indiana Commissioner of Insurance Stephen Robertson) and his staff in concluding this arduous and protracted litigation," Allen said in the news release.
Earlier this week, a $55 million settlement was announced for nearly 300 former Weinberger patients who filed malpractice claims.
In a separate criminal case, Weinberger pleaded guilty to 22 counts of health care fraud last year. He is serving a seven-year sentence in federal prison.
