MERRILLVILLE | Police are searching for a person who shot a Gary man multiple times early Wednesday outside of a Pepe's restaurant at 100 W. 61st Ave.
The victim was sitting inside a vehicle about 2:35 a.m. when a person ran behind the car and fired multiple shots in the vehicle, Merrillville police Sgt. Jeff Rice said.
The victim suffered gunshot wounds to his arms, neck and left cheek, Rice said.
He was able to drive away from the restaurant, but he eventually stopped in the 7100 block of Broadway, where police and paramedics met him.
The victim was transported to the Methodist Hospitals Southlake Campus. Rice said the man is in stable condition, but he remains in intensive care.
The victim was only person in the car when the shooting occurred.
A witness described the suspect as a male wearing a red hooded sweatshirt. The suspect fled the scene on foot, Rice said.
Police are unsure what prompted the shooting.
