Go Hawaiian at winter luau or dance the day away
The spirit of the islands will come alive at Sterling House Merrillville's Winter Luau.
Join them Feb. 23 at 8253 Virginia St. and make some waves with Hawaiian hors d'oeuvres and drinks. There will be fun and games and you can even show your skills with the Hula Hoop and doing the limbo. It promises to be a great way to warm up on a cold winter's day.
So put on your island attire, hang loose, and get ready for a great time. Complimentary admission, food and refreshments.

Day of Dance
Spirit of Women introduce a Day of Dance for Your Health from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Radisson Hotel at Star Plaza, 800 E. 81st Ave., Merrillville.
Marci Crozier, contestant on "The Biggest Loser" TV show, will emcee. There will be dance demonstrations and participation from Eclipse Performing Arts and Premiere Studio, group instructions led by Franciscan Omni Health and Fitness featuring Body Vive and Zumba.
There will also be health screenings, a vendor bazaar and a Chef's Corner featuring culinary demonstrations, including Nuevo Latino fare and reduced calorie preparations.
Those who attend will be entered into a raffle for a full-day spa retreat from Vanis Salon and Day Spa or a makeover from State of Mind Salon and Day Spa.

Read To The Dogs
Power Paws Group invites children to read to the dogs. This program is designed to help improve the literacy skills of children.
When children are learning to read, they often get stressed from being self-conscious about making mistakes. When reading to a dog, they begin to relax and forget about being nervous. All dogs are trained and certified.
Upcoming sessions at the Crown Point Community Library, 214 S. Court St., are at 2 p.m. Feb. 18 and 6 p.m. Feb. 23. Registration is not required.

Book discussions
"Mennonite in a Little Black Dress" by Rhoda Janzen will be discussed by the book discussion group at the Winfield Branch Library at 1 p.m. Tuesday.
"Major Pettigrew's Last Stand" by Helen Simonson will be the topic at 1 p.m. Feb. 27 at the Crown Point Community Library.
