MERRILLVILLE | The Ladies Philoptochos Society of SS. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral hosted its sixth annual Spaghetti Dinner earlier this year, and thanks to generous donations, faithful volunteers, free publicity and wonderful support from local communities, the group raised $12,000 for the Ross Township Food Pantry and $5,000. for the Cathedral Helping Hand Fund.

The Ross Township Food Pantry is located in the cathedral complex and is managed by parish volunteers. Families from throughout Ross Township come every Friday morning to a welcoming facility in order to receive needed groceries. The facility was equipped and built thanks to parish donations and volunteers.

"Our communities come together for this good cause as Ross Township does not have the funds to adequately supply the food pantry in these hard economic times," said Society member Marianne Dowdy. "The ladies work tirelessly collecting money and food donations for the dinner and serve a choice of three styles of spaghetti, salad, bread and dessert."
