INDIANAPOLIS | The Indiana Supreme Court will review on Thursday the life without parole sentence given last year to a Merrillville man who beat to death a Merrillville restaurant manager.
Ronnie Rice, now 31, pleaded guilty to murdering 61-year-old Maxine Urbanczyk during a December 2007 robbery at the KFC on U.S. 30 near Taft Street. The robbery netted about $6,000 taken from a store safe.
Under Indiana law, all life without parole sentences receive a direct review by the five justices of the state's high court.
The Supreme Court's decision on whether to affirm the life sentence or set a shorter prison term is expected later this year.
