MERRILLVILLE | Chicago-based Berman Auto Group has announced it plans to open Berman's Infiniti of Merrillville this summer.
The business is slated for property at 1794 W. 81st Ave.
"We are excited to expand our reach to accommodate the luxury needs of our existing Indiana customers while making many new customers in the Merrillville community," owner Mike Berman said in a news release.
Town Councilman Shawn Pettit was pleased to hear about the dealership.
"That's exactly what we needed," he said of the project.
The site of the Berman's Infiniti of Merrillville once housed a Saturn dealership. That business closed more than four years ago.
An aquatics center and a separate personal storage unit facility recently was proposed for the site, but that project ended after financing wasn't established, the town announced last week.
Berman Auto Group, which has been in business for 25 years, consists of several dealerships.
It operates Mid City Nissan, Infiniti of Chicago and Mid City Subaru dealerships in Chicago. The company's Star Nissan dealership is in Niles, Ill.
