MERILLVILLE | Karen Pence, Indiana Governor Mike Pence’s wife, toured Merrillville Intermediate School Friday. She was touring different schools in Indiana to see the students and programs first hand.
She was guided by Carson Hinkel, sixth grade purple team member, and Imani Butts sixth grade green team nember and a student council member.
MIS principal Ms. Renner explained the many different programs that are available to students. Mrs. Baldwin’s science and social studies room was first on the list. Next was one of the computer labs where students were working on Compass.
A group picture was taken in Mrs. Nowak’s MOMH room. Mrs. Nowak’s students had made flower Easter baskets for their families.
Mr. Zemelko’s fifth grade general music class sang “America” by Samuel Frances Smith. Being an art teacher herself, Mrs. Pence checked also out both fifth and sixth grade art classes. Carson Hinkel explained the black history stamps displayed in the hallway. Then it was time for her to go.
Mrs. Pence extended an invitation to Mrs. Baldwin and the MIS student council to stop by her office when they make the trip to Indianapolis at the end of May 2013.
