MERRILLVILLE | Lake County police caught a juvenile burglary suspect wanted on a warrant after a call of a burglary in progress Saturday afternoon.
Officers responded to a call of a burglary in progress at 1:45 p.m. in the 1200 block of West 52nd Drive in the Tiberon Trails apartment complex, according to a news release. Officers saw a vehicle leaving the area with a person in the passenger's seat matching the description of the suspect.
The officer tried to stop the vehicle and the passenger fled on food. Officers soon found the suspect hiding in a garbage can in the 5300 block of Pierce Street.
The juvenile, a resident of Merrillville, was arrested on suspicion of residential entry, criminal mischief and resisting law enforcement and was transported to the Lake County Juvenile Center.
