MERRILLVILLE | Three local men were arrested in a prostitution sting conducted in Merrillville by the Lake County Sheriff's Department.
The sting by Lake County Children and Family Unit Detectives, started with police placing an ad on craigslist under the "Casual Encounters" section.
A female undercover Lake County sheriff's police officer then posed as a prostitute between 9 am. and 3 p.m. Tuesday in the 8200 block of Louisiana Street. The officer was approached by men who propositioned her for her services.
David Adams, 31, of Hobart, and Alexander Ziemak, 38, and Louis Aguilera Sr., 51, both of Crown Point, were arrested on charges of patronizing a prostitute and sexual deviate conduct.
The three men were transported to the Lake County Jail.
"This sting is part of an on-going initiative to address prostitution and human trafficking," Lake County Sheriff John Buncich said in a statement issued Wednesday afternoon. "We will continue to address these issues in the weeks and months ahead."
