MERRILLVILLE | Influential Women of Northwest Indiana has released the list of nonprofit finalists that will be considered to receive a donation from the event. The Northwest Indiana 501(c) three nonprofit finalists will use the funds for projects that will directly benefit women/girls.
The 20 finalists include: Association of Artists & Craftsmen of Porter County, Autism Society of Indiana, Crossroads YMCA Inc., Griffith Branch, Discoveries Unlimited, Dunes Learning Center, Food Bank of Northwest Indiana, Girls on the Run of Northwest Indiana, Hobart Family YMCA, Holding Hope Foundation, Housing Opportunities, Indiana Parenting Institute, Inc., Ivy Tech Community College Northwest, North Central Indiana Rural Crisis Center, Reins of Life, Inc., Sojourner Truth House, Inc., St. Jude House Inc., The Caring Place Inc., The Gary Literacy Coalition, Inc., Visiting Nurse Association of Porter County Indiana, Inc. and Westchester Neighbors Food Pantry.
Examples of how the funds will be used includes helping women who are victims of domestic violence with child care assistance and housing, providing young girls with nutrition classes and tutoring to break the cycle of generational poverty, and offering summer camp programs to boost self-esteem regardless of ability to pay.
Four nonprofits will be chosen to receive funding and will be recognized at the Influential Women of Northwest Indiana awards on May 23 from 5-8 p.m. at the Avalon Manor in Merrillville.
