MERRILLVILLE | The town will spend more than $1 million to acquire new radios for police officers, firefighters and Emergency Management Agency staffers, Merrillville leaders said.

The Town Council last week unanimously approved a five-year lease/purchase agreement with Motorola Solutions for the radios, which are necessary to be in compliance with E-911 consolidation efforts.

The first payment for the radios isn’t due until 2015, Councilman Shawn Pettit said.
