MERRILLVILLE | A 34-year-old Merrillville woman allegedly attacked a man with hot cooking oil, broken glass and her teeth during a Friday altercation at a home in the 5500 block of Georgia Street.
According to court documents, Nicole George began arguing with a man living with her about the care of their child.
Court documents state the man started gathering his belongings so he could leave.
George is accused of biting the man on the chest. Court documents state George picked up a pan containing hot oil used to fry fish and threw the oil on the man, burning his face and chest.
Police said George broke a large glass ashtray during the altercation and used a piece of broken glass to cut the man on his back.
The man told police he was pulling his car out of the driveway when he saw George leaving the house with a handgun.
George allegedly attempted to discharge the weapon toward the man, but the gun didn't fire.
The man told police he drove away from the home and traveled to a hospital for treatment. The man received 17 stitches to his back, police said.
George was charged with battery by means of a deadly weapon, domestic battery, pointing a firearm and criminal recklessness.
