MERRILLVILLE | Meals on Wheels of Northwest Indiana honored its dedicated volunteers recently for their commitment to the Meals on Wheels mission.
The volunteers were treated to a catered lunch at the Hellenic Center and awards were given to volunteers who reached milestone years.
More than 30 volunteers were recognized with the Presidential Bronze Award, given to volunteers who donated 100 hours of their time in the the past year. Each recipient was given a certificate, bronze pin, and letter from President Barack Obama commending them on the accomplishment.
Three volunteers – James Sullivan, Robert Shoemaker and Marvin Olson – earned the Presidential Silver Award for their contribution of more than 250 hours a year. All three gentlemen are drivers delivering meals to congregate sites and/or individual clients.
Meals on Wheels of Northwest Indiana has been delivering meals in Lake County since 1977, and are always reaching for its goal that “No senior goes hungry.”
