MERRILLVILLE | Interested and prospective volunteers are invited to attend a volunteer orientation and training session at the Meals on Wheels Community Room, 8446 Virginia St.
One-hour sessions are at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 10 and 1:30 p.m. Sept. 19. Applicants will have an opportunity to tour the facility and ask questions about Meals on Wheels and the services it provides.
Each day, volunteers assist in the delivery of more than 1,200 meals throughout Lake County. The duties of a meal delivery volunteer include driving your own vehicle and delivering meals during the lunch hour to homes on a route within the local community.
Each delivery requires about 90 minutes.
Volunteers are needed for all routes throughout Lake County.
“However, at the moment, we are particularly in need in the Lake Station area,” Volunteer Manager Joan Vith said.
“In addition to individuals, many area organizations and businesses participate in our corporate volunteer program. We are confident businesses and organizations in Lake Station will assist us as we reach out to the community for assistance,” Vith added.
To register for training, or for more information on volunteer opportunities, contact Vith at (219) 756-3663 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
