MERRILLVILLE | Two Merrillville officers received level II commendations for efforts that led to the arrest of three people suspected of stealing a woman's wallet and using credit cards inside it to attempt to buy items from another store.
The wallet was taken from a woman's purse Aug. 21 while she was shopping at ALDI on U.S. 30.
After the theft was reported, Merrillville officer Luke Shaw gathered suspect information that helped officer Shane Coleman locate and stop a vehicle occupied by the suspects.
Jennie Common, 43, Rose Harden, 54, and Field Winters, 48, were charged with forgery, identity deception and two counts of theft in connection with the crime. They are all Chicago residents.
