MERRILLVILLE | Two people armed with handguns allegedly confined a homeowner and her son in a bedroom during a home invasion Monday in the 2200 block of West 63rd Avenue, police said.
The homeowner told police she heard a person kicking her front door about 11:30 p.m.
While examining the situation, the woman saw two people carrying pistols enter her home, said Bob Wiley, commander of the Merrillville Police Department detective bureau.
The men asked the homeowner where her daughter was, Wiley said. They also indicated the daughter owed them $2,000.
The homeowner told the men she didn't have money to give them and her daughter wasn't there.
Wiley said the men forced the homeowner and her son into a bedroom. The men took cellphones, televisions and a computer before the left, Wiley said.
There were no injuries during the home invasion, he said.
Police have made no arrests in the case.
The suspects are described as black men about 20 years old and about 6 feet tall. They were wearing hooded sweatshirts during the incident.
Wiley said the hooded sweatshirts obscured the view of their faces.
