MERRILLVILLE | Merrillville police are seeking more information about an early Sunday shooting that wounded a 13-year-old boy.
The boy told police someone shot him once in the leg about 1 a.m. in the 3900 block of West 73rd Avenue, Merrillville police Detective Joseph Cooper said.
The boy said he was walking his dog when the person, who was on foot, fired the shot, Cooper said.
The boy was treated at a local hospital and later released, Cooper said.
The boy described the shooter as male in his late teens or early 20s, Cooper said.
It's unclear what prompted the shooting.
The boy "didn't speak of a disturbance or anything like that," Cooper said.
Police have no suspects at this time, and the department received limited details of the situation, he said.
"It was extremely vague," Cooper said of the information reported to police.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Cooper at (219) 769-3531, ext. 347.
