MERRILLVILLE | Several Merrillville school officials were involved in the keynote address and breakout sessions at the recent Michigan Principals Academy in Lansing, Mich.

The Great Lakes Comprehensive Center at the American Institutes for Research and the Michigan Department of Education selected Merrillville schools to participate in the program, which provided guidance to Michigan principals leading a focused or targeted school because of poor academic achievement.

Merrillville officials discussed effective strategies in working with students to bring out their greatest potential.

The Merrillville Community School Corp. has achieved many accomplishments during the last three years, including Salk Elementary School being named a Blue Ribbon school by the Indiana and U.S. departments of education. Merrillville High School was named a model school by the International Center for Leadership in Education.
