MERRILLVILLE | Merrillville Community School Corporation has scheduled registration dates for kindergarten classes beginning in August.

Parents of any child who will be 5 on or before Aug. 1,  are urged to enroll at the school serving their area on the scheduled date, from 8:30 a.m. to noon or  1 to 2:45 p.m. Families whose last names begin with A-N are asked to register in the morning and those whose last names begin with O-Z are asked to register in the afternoon. If unable to register at your home school, register at one of the other schools.

Because of immunization restrictions, the school coirporation will not enroll new students on the first day of school.

Registration dates are:

Monday - Salk School, 3001 W. 77th Ave.; (219) 650-5304

Tuesday - Wood School, 6100 E. 73rd Ave.; (219)  650-5305

April 17 - Miller School, 5901 Waite St.; (219) 650-5303

April 18 - Fieler School, 407 W. 61st Ave.; (219)  650-5301

April 19 - Iddings School, 7249 Van Buren St.; (219)  650-5302

Parents should bring to registration the child being enrolled for a vision and hearing screening, as well as the child’s State Board of Health Birth Certificate (a hospital certificate of birth is not acceptable); and the child's updated record of immunizations.

Immunization, physical and dental forms are available in the main office of all elementary school buildings. Immunizations may be obtained from a doctor or call the Lake County Board of Health for information at (219) 755-3655.

If you have legal guardianship of a child, bring a copy of the court issued custodial papers.

Every parent/guardian enrolling a student must provide a driver’s license or a state picture identification card with a current address for the school to photocopy. The copy is to be placed in the student’s file.

Homeowners must bring three of the following four items: Indiana driver’s license or state ID with current address; utility bills (NIPSCO, water, sewer); deed, contract or mortgage statement; and Lake County property tax bill.

Renters/leasers must provide Indiana driver’s license or state ID with current address;  utility bills (NIPSCO, water, sewer); rent or lease agreement  that includes parent/guardian name on the agreement, school age student on the agreement as tenant, beginning and ending date of agreement, name and phone number of the manager/landlord (may be contacted to confirm residency).

This information above is required even if a family has other children in the Merrillville Community School Corporation.
