MERRILLVILLE | The installation of two new signs will cap off an improvement project at Merrillville Town Hall, officials said.
A large sign has been placed near the entrance of the facility at 7820 Broadway. Landmark Sign also installed a smaller sign with a digital message feature between the Town Hall parking lot and Broadway.
Town Manager Bruce Spires said the message feature will make it easier for Merrillville to announce programs and events. The town's current practice for announcements requires the Public Works Department to install banners above Broadway.
Each of the new signs has been placed on posts surrounded by wood boards. Town Councilman Tom Goralczyk said the boards will be covered with decorative stone. That work will begin next week, he said.
Spires said all of the sign work will be finished by the time Merrillville hosts its National Night Out celebration Aug. 6.
The sign installation follows interior and other exterior improvements at Town Hall, including new carpeting, a new sprinkler system and painting.
Paving the parking lot, installing new lighting, replacing doors and installing flag poles were among aspects of the exterior work. A walkway also was added from a gazebo to the Town Hall entrance.
Goralczyk said Town Hall had not been renovated since Merrillville operations moved into the building nearly 20 years ago.
